Time Commitments
When people are involved in multiple Crews or Forums, it might be good to be explicit about what team members can expect from each other in terms of their time commitment.
Time Commitments: Fixed • Flexible • Temporary • Intermittent
Purpose
The Time Commitment patterns help annotate personal membership in one or more Crews or Forums to indicate which people are committed long-term (permanently) or short-term (temporarily) and with either a fixed schedule (low variability) or flexible schedule (high variability).
The four Time Commitment patterns are personal and depend on the context (a Crew or Forum). For example, one person could have a Fixed time commitment in a Value Stream Crew and a Temporary time commitment in a Platform Crew.
Notes
People may find these four patterns useful as a starting point for a discussion about boundaries:
How many fixed hours per day, week, or month?
How many minimum/maximum hours per day, week, or month?
What is the start date? What is the end date?
What is needed to be “on call”? How responsive should a person be?
Etc.
Rules / Constraints
These patterns can be combined with other patterns in many ways. We have not yet identified any limiting constraints.
